The Island
After making our decision to move to Croatia and start a new life, our search began. We spent more than a year new looking for the right place. With our friend and skipper, Uros, we sailed the archipelago of Dalmatia exploring the islands. Finally, we went ashore at Solta and everything fell into place.
Solta is the epitome of the authentic island life we were looking for!
The name of the island originates from the Greek name Olyntha, meaning unripe fig and even today the locals have kept their long nurtured agricultural traditions and legends. Solta is the island of fishermen, olives and vineyards. The hills, with a wealth of herbs and shrubs, are perfect for beekeeping which is why Solta is also famous for its honey.
Solta is situated 9 nautical miles from Split. The island is 58 square kilometers in size with 4 harbours and 24 bays littered along the 60km of gorgeous coastline.
We especially love the authenticity of the island and the fact that you will find no mass tourism here. The main activities still revolve around the age-old production of olive oil and honey which makes it ideal for those who want to veer from the standard tourist trail for a glimpse of traditional island life.
With the proximity to Split and the islands of Brac and Hvar, you can easily plan day trips and return to the peace and quiet at Solta.
